A strong winter storm making its way
A strong winter storm making its way across British Columbia has caused difficulties in the interior, but is joy to skiiers in the Metro Vancouver region.
In the Columbia-Shuswap district, Highway 1 is closed in both directions from Revelstoke to Craigellachie due to a critical accident involving three autos. It won’t be opened till sometime late Saturday night, and targeted traffic heading east is at the moment becoming stopped at Sicamous.

At Kelowna International Airport, flights have been delayed all day due to poor visibility and a slippery runway.

Story continues under But in Vancouver, the storm meant local ski hills were blanketed with almost a foot of snow. Mount Seymour’s ski and snowboard college opened for the very first time all year, and it’s hoped far more places will open up in the coming days.
“We’ve got a lot of pretty patient skiiers that are checking with us all the time..they’re as keen as we are to get rolling, and I believe this is it,” stated Mt. Seymour Resorts president Eddie Wood.
